The 5th edition of the Progressive Tradesmen and Artisans Association of Nigeria (PROTAAN) Youth Wing Summit held at Iba Oluyole Hall on Tuesday 23rd September, 2025 has been described as a milestone gathering to promote vocational skills, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth in Oyo State.
In his welcome address, the PROTAAN Chairman, Youth Wing, Comrade Dayo Adebisi Man’D, praised the Oyo State government for its consistent support of artisans and tradespeople. He emphasized that the summit was a platform to recognize the role of skilled labour in national development, while also pushing for policy reforms and access to resources for young artisans.
“Our members are not just workers; they are builders of the economy. Through summits like this, we advocate for recognition, policy reforms, and access to resources that enable us to thrive,” Adebisi stated.

The event brought together key dignitaries including the Commissioner for Youths and Sports (represented by the Department of Youth Development); Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo IBNE, Ona Ara LGA Chairman (represented by Hon. Alakia); CEO of Moment Continental Travels, Dr. Femi Adegbola, who awarded three associations — BATDACAN Adire, NBHA, and ASGAS Association — for punctuality; Comrade Farayola, ARSOYORC Chairman; and Hon. Sanusi Shaba, former Ona Ara LGA Chairman, among others.
Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Building Confidence through Skills Acquisition,” Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, stressed that vocational and technical skills acquisition remains a key driver of youth confidence and prosperity in the Pacesetter State.

“Skills acquisition is more than just a means to earn a living; it is a tool for self-discovery, confidence-building, and national economic transformation. When young people are equipped with the right skills, they become job creators rather than job seekers,” he said.
Falana further highlighted Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s administration’s efforts in promoting entrepreneurship programmes and skills partnerships through the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, assuring youths of more opportunities ahead.
In his goodwill message, the PROTAAN National President, Mogaji Salaudeen Kamorudeen, commended the Agency for Youth Development and applauded Her Excellency, Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, for her empowerment initiatives which have strengthened artisans’ confidence and productivity.
The summit featured exhibitions, breakout sessions, and training workshops on innovation in craftsmanship, financing, apprenticeship systems, and digital skills for artisans.
At the close of the event, stakeholders unanimously called for increased investment in skills training, improved infrastructure, and stronger partnerships to boost opportunities for youths and artisans in Oyo State.
