President Bola Tinubu has finally revealed why he opposed the planned hunger protest, citing concerns about potential destruction of lives and properties.
In a statement, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to democracy and freedom, drawing from his own experience with peaceful protests against dictatorship during the military era.
He stressed that no government would tolerate protests that result in destruction of lives and property, highlighting the need for peaceful demonstrations.
Tinubu held emergency meetings with APC state governors, traditional rulers, and Ulamas to address the planned protest and its potential consequences.
Traditional rulers and the National Orientation Agency have urged protest organizers to seek dialogue with the Federal Government, warning that the protests could be hijacked by hoodlums.
Tinubu’s comment followed a report from the DSS and Defence Headquarters that there are plans to replicate Kenya’s kind of protest in Nigeria.
