Plot Twist! Tinubu to Bring Back Fubara & Rivers Assembly in Shocking July Move?
President Bola Tinubu is reportedly preparing to reinstate Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the suspended House of Assembly before the end of July, following a high-level reconciliation meeting in Abuja.
The closed-door meeting, held Thursday night at the Presidential Villa, included Governor Fubara, his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Speaker Martins Amaewhule, alongside other key lawmakers.
This move comes months after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, suspending Fubara, his deputy, and the entire Assembly, citing pipeline vandalism and a breakdown of law and order.
The crisis began in October 2023 with a political fallout between Fubara and Wike, leading to impeachment moves by 27 pro-Wike lawmakers and a violent standoff in the state.

Sources close to the Presidency revealed that Tinubu decided to fast-track the restoration process after progress was made in reconciling both camps, with Fubara and Wike recently seen publicly exchanging pleasantries.
Although unconfirmed reports suggested Fubara might resign after his reinstatement, Presidency officials dismissed the claim, insisting no such condition was included in the peace terms.

However, the reconciliation deal reportedly limits Fubara’s powers—barring him from seeking a second term and ceding control of local governments to Wike’s camp.

Fubara is also expected to pay allowances owed to the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, who will retain their seats despite previous legal controversies surrounding their defection to the APC.
In line with the peace pact, Fubara has dissolved his major support groups, signaling full reintegration into the Wike-led political structure in Rivers State.
Both Fubara and Wike have publicly declared peace has returned, pledging to work together for the unity and progress of Rivers State under President Tinubu’s guidance.
