Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom expressed confidence that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
Speaking at his Makurdi residence during a visit from the G14, a group comprising PDP elders from 14 Tiv local government areas, Ortom urged the group to intensify efforts to strengthen the party for the upcoming contest.

Ortom called on party members to move past the internal crisis that cost them the 2023 election and work towards uniting the PDP. He emphasized that no one has the authority to disband the G14, despite recent disagreements within the group. He also reassured members that his leadership role in the party remains intact and encouraged them to work towards welcoming back those who wish to rejoin the PDP.
He concluded by expressing optimism that, with the support of God and the people, the PDP will regain power in Benue by 2027.
