The Governors of Plateau and Adamawa states, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri respectively, have formally disassociated themselves from the decision to expel prominent leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The controversial expulsion was announced at the ongoing PDP 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday. Others affected include former PDP National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, allegedly over anti-party activities. The motion was moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga, and put to a voice vote by PDP Governors’ Forum chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
In a press statement, Governor Mutfwang clarified that neither the Governors’ Forum nor the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) discussed the matter before the motion was tabled. He said the expulsion does not reflect his position and described it as a non-strategic step that could further destabilize the party. He called for unity, dialogue, and collective effort to rebuild the PDP.
Similarly, Governor Fintiri took to his official social media handle to dissociate himself from the decision. He warned that the move could deepen existing crises and reiterated his commitment to the party’s stability. Fintiri urged stakeholders to prioritize reconciliation and to work towards healing divisions within the PDP.
Wike Reacts to Expulsion from PDP
“I, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, from the PDP. I stand for the peace and stability of the party and will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration,” Fintiri stated.

Both governors’ positions signal a growing concern among some PDP leaders over the expulsion’s potential impact on party cohesion ahead of the 2025 general elections.
