Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has officially signed into law a bill to upgrade Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo to a university status, thus bringing the number of state owned universities in the state to three.
According to news made available to newsmwn I Ibadan while signing the bill into law on Monday at the Exco Chamber, Governor’s Office, Makinde describes the event as a landmark achievement in the state.
In his address, commissioner for Education, Barr. Abdulramon Abdulrahim stated that the promotion of the college to a university of education will help in graduating competent and professional teachers and improve the internally generated revenue in the state.
Speaking, Speaker ,Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. Adebo Ogundoyin said the passage of the law to upgrade the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo to a degree awarding Institution came to limelight on November 23rd 2022 which increase the state owned universities to three, as also to credit the versatility of the state government,led by Seyi Makinde.
In his remarks, Governor Seyi Makinde, said his administration will maintain 100 percent subventions while regular services to staff welfare will be upped.
”We have succeeded in this state making sure subventions to institutions are upped from 25 percent to 100 percent with little or no distractions in the school calendar.
The governor said the newly upgraded university will be formal as Emmanuel Alayande university of Education,Oyo days’ time by the National Universities Commission (NUC) while the diplomas, university degrees, and other academic certificates
The event had in attendance the Institution’s acting provost, Dr Nelson Oyewo, lawmakers, government functionaries and members of the state executive council.
