Oyo State Governor Extends Olive Branch to Opposition Parties, Hints at Youthful Succession
In a move aimed at fostering unity and progress in Oyo State, Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde has extended an open invitation to opposition parties to join hands with his administration. This gesture, made during a recent media chat in ibadan, underscores the governor’s commitment to putting the interests of the state above partisan politics.
“We must work together to bring prosperity to Oyo State,” Governor Makinde emphasized. “This state is our collective heritage, and it’s our responsibility to ensure its growth and development.”
The governor’s call for unity is seen as a strategic move to build a broad-based coalition that can drive transformative change in the state. By embracing opposition parties, Makinde aims to leverage their expertise and ideas to tackle the state’s pressing challenges.
In addition to his appeal for unity, Governor Makinde also dropped a hint about the future leadership of the state. When asked about his plans for succession, the governor suggested that the next governor of Oyo State will likely be a young person.
“We’re entering a new era in Oyo State,” Makinde said. “We need fresh ideas, energy, and perspectives to drive our growth. I don’t think a 70-year-old can be governor of Oyo State come 2027.”
