At the plenary session held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Oyo State House of Assembly deliberated and adopted a critical motion seeking the reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Day across the state.

The motion, which also calls for the implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable waste management strategy, aims to address the increasing environmental and public health concerns associated with poor waste disposal practices in both urban and rural areas of the state.
According to Egalitarian Voice, members of the Assembly expressed deep concern over the noticeable decline in environmental hygiene and the growing menace of indiscriminate waste dumping. They emphasized that the absence of a coordinated sanitation policy has contributed to environmental degradation, increased health risks, and a general decline in the quality of life for residents.
The proposed return of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Day is expected to serve as a practical measure to instill a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among citizens. Lawmakers also called for the adoption of modern and efficient waste collection and recycling systems, as part of a broader strategy to ensure a cleaner, safer, and healthier Oyo State.
The House charged relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to commence immediate action toward the formulation and execution of the proposed sanitation and waste management initiatives.

The plenary session reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enacting policies that enhance the welfare of the people and safeguard the state’s environment for current and future generations.
