The Oyo house of assembly has urged the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of environment and natural resources to put in place regulatory guidelines on scavenging to discourage criminal elements who use scavenger’s activities to perpetrate crimes.
The House made the resolution while deliberating on the Report of the Committee on Environment, Water Resource and Ecology at its sitting on Tuesday.
The House further charged the ministry of Environment and Natural Resources put machinery in motion, to register metal scavengers operating in the State to streamline their operation.

In addition, the Oyo State Security Network Agency and other Law Enforcement Agencies have also been mandated to conduct regular surveillance and enforce the restrictions on scavenger activities to designated dumpsites, stressing the need for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion to engage Community Associations on the need to cooperate with the Law Enforcement Agencies on scavenging restrictions.
The house however admonished the Ministry of Information and Orientation, Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) and other information dissemination Agencies to embark on public awareness campaigns on scavenging restrictions and report infractions.
