Oyo State Government under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde has declared Monday, 8th July, 2024 as work-free day in the state to commemorate and celebrate the new Islamic calendar called Hijrah.
The declaration of the work-free day for Oyo workers was contained in a circular letter issued and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo.

Hijrah 1446AH which signifies the commencement of new Islamic calendar begins on Sunday 7th July, 2024 as Muharam 1st.
Governor Seyi Makinde in his message for new Islamic calendar year charged all and sundry to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and prosperity of state and country in general.

The government urged head of service, honourable commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of extra-ministerial department, special advisers among others to give the circular letter widest coverage it deserves so that people will be aware.
