In a commendable display of bravery and tactical precision, the Oyo State Amotekun Corps has successfully neutralized a kidnap syndicate operating in the Otu axis of Itesiwaju Local Government Area, rescued the abducted victim alive, and recovered high-grade weapons and stolen property.
According to a situation report obtained by Egalitarian Voice, the incident began around 10:00 PM on Monday, July 28, 2025, when unknown gunmen abducted one Mr. Ogunyinka Samuel, a 51-year-old resident of Gaa Araromi, Old Otu/Ipapo Road, Otu. The gunmen struck while the victim was returning home with his wife and apprentice, forcefully opening their car door and dragging him out at gunpoint. In the process, the apprentice sustained a cutlass injury to the forehead while pleading with the abductors.
Amotekun operatives under the Itesiwaju Command acted swiftly, launching a coordinated search and engagement operation. The elite local security outfit tracked down the assailants, resulting in a fierce confrontation. Two of the kidnappers were neutralized, while one suspect escaped with gunshot wounds. The victim, Mr. Ogunyinka Samuel, was rescued alive and safely reunited with his family by 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
During the mop-up operation, items recovered and handed over to the Otu Divisional Police include:
- Two brand new motorcycles
- One AK-47 rifle
- The corpses of the neutralized kidnappers
This operation marks yet another milestone in the success of Amotekun’s grassroots-driven approach to tackling insecurity in Oyo State.
Community members, local leaders, and the general public have poured out commendations, praising the gallant efforts of Amotekun in ensuring peace and safety across rural communities. Residents also applauded the synergy between Amotekun and the Nigeria Police Force in handling criminal elements effectively.
