Oyo 2027: Why Oyo Deserves a Female Governor Like Hon. Bolanle Sarumi (BASA) In a Time Like This

…By Segun Akinlabi
As Oyo State prepares for another critical electoral cycle in 2027, conversations about leadership renewal and inclusive governance are becoming more urgent. The future of Oyo should not only be about continuity of policies but also about transformation — one that embraces competence, compassion, and creativity in leadership. In this light, the state deserves to consider a female governor, particularly someone with the proven capacity and human touch of Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi (BASA).
For decades, women have played significant roles in political mobilisation, community development, and grassroots empowerment across Oyo State, yet very few have been allowed to lead from the top. The 2027 election presents an opportunity to correct that imbalance — not as a token of gender equality but as a deliberate choice for progress and fresh perspective.

Globally, women leaders have demonstrated that governance can be both firm and humane. Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand showed the world what compassionate leadership looks like when she managed national crises with empathy and effectiveness. Angela Merkel of Germany led one of the world’s largest economies for 16 years with discipline, stability, and respect. In Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president, steered her nation from post-war ruins to renewed international respect. These women proved that emotional intelligence, decisiveness, and accountability can coexist in leadership — values Oyo State urgently needs at this stage of its development.

Hon. Bolanle Sarumi (BASA) represents this brand of leadership. She has spent years building bridges among communities, empowering market women, supporting youths, and advocating for inclusive participation in governance. Through her BASA Foundation, she has touched lives directly — from educational support for children to health outreach and small-scale business empowerment for families. Her politics is rooted in service, not self-interest.

Having a female governor in Oyo would not be a mere gender milestone; it would be a strategic leap toward balanced governance. Women leaders tend to focus more on welfare, social development, transparency, and people-first policies — areas that directly improve quality of life. A BASA leadership would likely prioritise education, youth inclusion, health, and sustainable empowerment — all grounded in her years of social impact.
Wale Ajala and the Future of Representation in Ona-Ara Constituency (Series VII)
In a time like this, when citizens crave sincerity and purposeful leadership, Oyo needs a governor who listens, understands, and acts from experience with people, not just politics. Hon. Bolanle Sarumi stands as a compelling symbol of that possibility — a leader ready to redefine governance through compassion, competence, and courage.
