According to the dictionary meaning of the word “DEMOCRACY” it means the government of the people by the people for the people. This is exactly what His Excellency the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Abiodun Seyi Makinde FNSE stands for.
As at May 29th, 2019 when he (Seyi Makinde) was sworn in as the elected governor during the March 9 general Election in Oyo State, it was on record that the external debt of the state was $136 millions. So fortunately for us, the people’s governor reduced the debt to $100 millions within his seven months in office i.e as at December 31st, 2019.
As we all know that 2020 was a very challenging year in the history of our dear country Nigeria due to the sudden outbreak of the deadly pandemic (COVID’19). If nothing of such had happened I am sure Governor Makinde would have grew the state’s IGR by 26% but nevertheless in the same 2020 another $26 million was reduced from the state external debt to $83m which represented a decline of 39%. That is an insane figure for those who know. This is $2.16 million repayment average over the course of 2020 which is a 58% decline by the Standards he set in 2019.
I can say if Covid never happened and was going at the 2019 momentum it could have been $100m repayment in by the end of 2020.
We can almost bet he may repay every penny Oyo State owes before the end of his tenure.
It is evidently clear Engr. Dsc. Seyi Makinde is prudent and has reduced the state’s excessive baggage which culminated in the accumulation of the debts by his predecessors.

In a nutshell, as Engr Seyi Makinde, FNSE is excelling in his fiscal responsibility, people still expect more from him regards Security being one of his major four pillars set in motion to run the administration between 2019-2023 and should be a more robust expansion and upgrade in Omituntun 2.0 tagged Sustainable Development Vision from 2023-2027 but we all know that even Nigeria as a whole isn’t safe as such but I believe he is already fixing all the necessary areas to put all hands on deck in order to provide adequate, sophisticated measures in securing the lives and properties of Oyo State residents because he is practicing the government for the people first as he promised.
What a sellable product for People’s Democracy Party (PDP) the largest in Africa, Oyo state and Nigeria at large. Engr Seyi Makinde has already been hitting the ground running via his Omituntun 1.0 achievements such as Ibadan International Airport project works, construction of model, metropolitan bus terminals, 110Km circular road, Construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state, the 11MW hybrid Independent Power Project (IPP), 8.3km rehabilitation of road from Oju-Rin To Olorunda Abaa recently approved among others.
