Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party is crucial for the party to secure a place on the ballot in the 2027 general elections..

Dr. Bukola Saraki who has thrown his weight behind the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s crucial national convention gets underway today and continues into Monday.
Saraki described the ongoing convention as a defining moment for the opposition party, warning that failure to get it right could jeopardize PDP’s chances of participating effectively in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the convention represents the party’s “only chance to survive,” stressing that unity, legality, and proper conduct of the exercise are essential to avoid internal crises that could threaten PDP’s status with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He urged party stakeholders to set aside personal interests and rally around a common goal, noting that Nigerians are looking up to the PDP as a credible alternative.
