As part of efforts to ensure a safe and hygienic environment during the rainy season, the Supervisory Councillor for Environment in Ona-Ara Local Government, Hon. Idrees Olapade, has engaged market leaders in a sensitization session focused on environmental best practices and public safety.
The meeting, which took place recently at Amuloko Market, was attended by key stakeholders including the Special Assistant on Environment to Ona-Ara Local Government Chairman, Hon. Buliameen Ajani; Acting Director of Environment, Ona-Ara Local Government, Sanitarian Jimoh Sikiru; Acting Deputy Director of Inu-kan LCDA; Babaloja of Amuloko, Alhaji Opakunle; Iyaloja of Amuloko, and several other community leaders.
Hon. Olapade emphasized the importance of keeping the market and surrounding areas clean, especially by avoiding the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainages, a practice that contributes significantly to flooding and environmental hazards.
He particularly warned residents and traders to exercise extreme caution around the Ariyo River, noting that the river poses serious risks during this rainy season due to its tendency to overflow. He urged the community to avoid activities that could endanger lives near the riverbank.
Hon. Olapade also reassured the public of the commitment of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to infrastructural development, announcing that the second phase of the Olorunsogo-Akanran-Dagbolu (Ariyo road) project would soon commence to further improve access and reduce flood impact in the area.
In his remarks, he praised the Executive Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government, Hon. Dr. Temitope Kolapo (GLORIOUS), for creating an enabling and safe environment for the people of the local government.
“We are in the rainy season. Our drainages must be kept clear, and our environment must remain safe. Let us all play our part to prevent avoidable disasters,” Hon. Olapade stated.
