In a proactive move to safeguard public health and safety, Ona-Ara Local Government today 2nd July, 2024 organized a seminal seminar on cholera prevention and fire safety for its residents. The event featured a keynote address by renowned International Health Expert, Engr. Funmi Obisesan, President of Funmi Obisesan Development and Empowerment Initiative (FODEI), Egalitarian voice reports.
Hosted by Executive Council Chairman, Dr. Kolapo Temitope-Glorious, and co-hosted by Jagun Olubadan Chief Engr. Dotun Jubril Sanusi, the seminar aimed to educate the community on the importance of proper hygiene, sanitation, and fire prevention measures. The event drew a diverse audience, including market leaders, artisans, school proprietors, religious leaders, youth, and students.
Engr. Obisesan’s lecture emphasized the crucial need for proper waste management, safe water supply, and good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of cholera. She explained that cholera is a highly infectious disease caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacterium, which can lead to severe diarrhea, dehydration, and even death if left untreated.
She stressed the importance of proper handwashing, food handling, and sanitation practices to prevent the spread of the disease.
Additionally, Engr. Obisesan highlighted the importance of fire safety measures, such as regular electrical maintenance, fire drill exercises, and having fire extinguishers in strategic locations. She emphasized that fire hazards can lead to devastating consequences, including loss of lives and property, and that prevention is key.

The seminar featured interactive sessions, where participants received training on basic first aid techniques, fire safety protocols, and cholera prevention strategies. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where participants clarified their doubts and received guidance from Engr. Obisesan and other health experts.
To reinforce the campaign’s impact, participants received prepared water purification tablets, distributed during the seminar held at Ilaji Resort International Mini Stadium, Akanran, Ibadan.
By taking proactive steps, Ona-Ara Local Government demonstrated its commitment to prioritizing public health and safety, setting an exemplary model for other communities to follow.
