Alarmed by the rapidly worsening insecurity sweeping across Nigeria, the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) has issued a stern and urgent call to the Federal Government, warning that the nation risks “total collapse of public safety” if decisive actions are not taken immediately.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Abdulfatai Adeyemi (LEGACY), the NYC condemned the escalating wave of abductions—particularly the recent kidnappings of students and worshippers—describing the trend as a direct attack on the nation’s future, stability, and collective sanity.
According to the youth organisation, Nigeria has reached a point where traditional policing strategies are no longer sufficient, insisting that community and state policing have now become a national necessity, not a mere policy option.
“The level of insecurity confronting this country is no longer tolerable,” the statement read. “Communities are being terrorised, families destroyed, and young Nigerians—our future leaders—are being abducted with reckless ease. The time for talk is over; Nigeria needs a new security structure now.”

The NYC Oyo State Chapter urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take bold and immediate action by implementing four critical measures:
• Establish State Police: Deploy a fully decentralised policing system that strengthens grassroots security and ensures criminals are swiftly apprehended.
• Adequately Fund Security Agencies: Provide modern tools, technology, and logistics necessary for proactive crime fighting.
• Reclassify States by Security Risk: Use intelligence reports to determine safe and unsafe zones—especially for NYSC deployments.
• Offer Safer NYSC Alternatives: Allow corps members to serve in their home states or provide supervised transportation in high-risk areas.
The group warned that without urgent intervention, more lives—especially those of young Nigerians—will continue to be needlessly endangered.

“The safety of Nigerian youths is not negotiable. The NYC will not keep quiet while our generation is being targeted and endangered,” the group added.
The statement was made available to the press by the Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Segun Akinlabi (EGALITARIAN), who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to pushing for security reforms that will protect citizens across the country.
