The newly appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission ( OYSIEC) Dr. Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi has been conferred with the “ASUP Ambassador Award” by the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics (ASUP), Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora Chapter.
The award conferred on the former chairman of the chapter, according to the leadership of the union, was in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the institution and the union while in the citadel of learning.
Other distinguished personalities honoured at the “End of Year Event” of the union held on Wednesday at the institution’s 800-seat hall included the chairman of Solutions FM, Ibadan, High Chief Adegboyeka Taofeek Adegoke (FCA); the chairman of the Governing Council, OYSCATECH, Dr. Amusan Damilare Gideon; the former chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Sharafa Olanioye; and Hon. Abdul Rasheed Olanrewaju Ariwoola .
Presenting the award to the OYSIEC boss, Comrade Nurudeen Adekunle Masopa, Zone “C ” Zonal Coordinator, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP), lauded the awardee for the legacies left behind.He recalled the sacrifices, courage and struggles made while in office , which he said played a significant role in the progress of the union.
In his acceptance speech, the OYSIEC Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi ,described the award as “timely” considering the fact that the award was not posthumous.
He opined that the honour and recognition bestowed on him would spur him to be more committed and dedicated to the progress of the union and welfare of members.
Dr . Adeniyi attributed the success recorded during his spell to collective efforts, sacrifices, and contributions made by members.
“Even after leaving office for nearly six years, the commitment to service has not wavered. This award is not merely recognition but a renewed call to do more”.
“The confidence reposed through this honour strengthens dedication to the union. It reinforces an unyielding resolve to serve with greater responsibility.””The progress recorded by the institution reflects collective sacrifice and genuine struggle. From a time without access to some basic amenities, unity, and perseverance brought transformation. The union became a shield, a voice, and a vehicle for development. Together, commitment to welfare and progress remains unwavering”
He appreciated the governor of Oyo State , Engr. Seyi Makinde for the approach adopted in dealing with the union leaders across the state-owned tertiary institutions, describing him as a listening governor.
Dr. Adeniyi, however, lauded the efforts and contributions of the deceased gallant comrades to the uplift of the union .while a minute of silence was observed for them .
