State government has bidded for the hosting rights of the 2024 National Sports Festival.
According to Sportingtribune, a source within the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports said the bid documents signed by the Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council had been submitted two days ago along with videos and pictorial illustrations to support the bid.
Recalled that Oyo State lasted hosted the Nigeria’s version of the Olympics in 1979 tagged Oluyole ’79.
Also, the source hinted that some other states have shown interest in hosting the biennial NSF which was introduced in 1973 but without comprehensive documents to back it up at least for now.
When contacted, general manager, Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde, confirmed the speculations, adding the state’s governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde is aware of the process.
“We have submitted all the necessary documents to back the bidding and don’t forget the fact the last time we hosted was in 1979. Oyo State is also the only South West state that had hosted the NSF once, while others have hosted the Games at least twice.
“We also have enough facilities to host the Games successfully, and we can put other facilities in place within a space of one year. In essence, we are fully ready to host the 2024 National Sports Festival.”
Oyo State Athletes who won medals at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival will soon receive their cash rewards soon, as the Ministry of Youth and Sports has already received the Governor’s approval for the rewards meant for the medalists.
