An Open Letter To The Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency (Engr.) Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde: Appreciation, Fulfillment of Commitments and Request for Continued Support for Oyo State Student Body
We trust this letter finds you in robust health and high spirits. We are writing on behalf of the Oyo State student body to convey our heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering commitment to the advancement of education and the development of our state’s educational institutions.
Under your astute leadership, we have borne witness to remarkable progress in the enhancement of our education system, particularly the noteworthy transformation of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education into a university and also the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin Campus. Your dedication to delivering top-tier education in Oyo State is both commendable and deeply appreciated.
While we, as students, take pride in the achievements thus far, we remain acutely aware that there is still much work to be done. We respectfully request your sustained attention and support in the following prayers:
1. Continuous Inclusive Decision-Making: We enjoyed having representation in the SAfER Sub-committee, which we highly appreciate. We, however, implore Your Excellency to engage students actively in the decision-making process, particularly in matters directly impacting the student community.
2. Fulfillment of Commitments: Your Excellency pledged to provide buses for the student body, a commitment that has yet to be realized. We kindly beseech Your Excellency to expedite the fulfillment of this overdue promise, recognizing the pivotal role transportation plays in the lives and education of many students. Furthermore, we implore you to include the student constituency as a first-hand beneficiary of the ongoing food distribution in the state, which is an effort to cushion the removal of fuel subsidy in the country, we need it the most as a student, as well as payment of Bursary and Scholarships.
3. Appointment of Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs: The vacancy in the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs has persisted for months. We respectfully urge Your Excellency to prioritize this appointment as it is long overdue to us as a community. We are confident this office will bring our constituency closer to you, as we experienced with Omituntun 0.1.
4. Campus Maintenance: We implore Your Excellency to give attention to infrastructures in our various campuses. We recognize the fact that TETFUND and ETF are still working on new buildings in some campuses, there is still an urgent need to give proper maintenance to the available facilities, as one of the factors that affect positive learning is a good and favorably learning environment.
Your Excellency, we hold unwavering confidence in your administration’s dedication to the cause of education. By addressing the aforementioned requests, you will not only enhance the well-being of students but also fortify the future of our esteemed state. In unity, we can elevate Oyo State’s educational system to become a beacon of excellence for the entire nation. We extend our deepest gratitude for your steadfast commitment to our beloved state.
Yours in Struggle
