The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government an ultimatum to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants by September 1st, a significant increase from the current wage. Failure to do so, the NLC has threatened to direct workers to down tools, crippling the country’s workforce.
According to the viral video, NLC’s demand comes after months of negotiations with the government, which have yielded little progress. The union is determined to ensure that workers receive a fair wage, considering the rising cost of living in the country.
“We have been patient enough,” said the NLC President. “We have given the government enough time to implement the new minimum wage, but they have failed to act. We are left with no choice but to take drastic measures to protect the interests of our members.”

In response, the government has promised to look into the matter, but the NLC remains skeptical. “We have heard promises before,” said the NLC President. “But this time, we will not back down. We will direct our members to go on strike if the government fails to meet our demands.”
The government has acknowledged the NLC’s concerns and is working to find a solution. “We understand the importance of a fair minimum wage and are committed to finding a mutually beneficial solution,” said a government spokesperson.

As the deadline approaches, the country waits to see if the government will meet the NLC’s demands or face the consequences of a nationwide strike.
