MTN Nigeria has reversed its 200% tariff increase on the 15GB data plan, admitting it was an error.
The telecommunications giant announced the reversal in a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, MTN had implemented the steep price hike on the 15GB data plan, alongside other bundles, which exceeded the 50% telecom tariff adjustment approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In its apology, the company acknowledged customer frustration, saying:
“We understand how upsetting it must have been to wake up to a 200% increase on your favorite digital bundle.
We could give reasons, but omo, all that is just story. We admit it—it was a mistake.”
The statement urged customers to forgive and assured them of continued commitment to their satisfaction.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday called on Nigerians to boycott telecom services in protest against the tariff hike.
