A major disaster is waiting to happen at the Ibadan end of Lagos Ibadan expressway except the federal government takes urgent action at averting it.
This is as a result of a portion of the road at Fijabi area between Agbowo and Orogun junctions which has caved in due to erosion.
I t will be recalled that, about two months ago, precisely on the 13th of August this year, there was a road crash that claimed sixteen lives and left seventeen injured on this same road as a result of non-completion of the dualization project.
Also, on the 28 of August, another crash at Elewi-odo portion of the same road claimed the life of a driver and left his motor boy seriously injured.
These are just two instances out of several unreported cases of road crashes that have happened due to the non completion of the dualization works which started well over a decade now.
A visit of BCOS News to the Fijabi Bus stop area of the road revealed that a major havoc is waiting to happen except timely intervention by concerned authorities.
Apart from the erosion that has claimed about half of the fairly passable portion of the road, the remaining portion where motorists now ply is already bad thereby requiring extra caution for safe passage.
It is interesting to note that the same spot is also being used for U-turn by motorists from the other lane of the dual carriage road.
Some motorists who spoke with this reporter appealed for urgent attention on the damaged portion before it results into irreparable losses as they also suggested the closure of the damaged portion to divert traffic to the other lane where work is almost completed.
They further appealed to the government to aid resumption to site by the contractors handling the dualization project and avert the associated risks and damages.
