Dr. Babatunde Afees Adeniyi, born about five decades ago in Oyo Town, Oyo West Local Government Area of Oyo State, is the newly appointed Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).
He is currently a Senior Lecturer at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, having previously reached the pinnacle of his career as Chief Lecturer at Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, where he contributed immensely to teaching, research, institutional development, labour union growth, and the advancement of workers’ welfare.
Dr. Adeniyi obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Kwara State University, Malete (2023), after earning two Master’s degrees — M.Sc. in Economics from Crescent University, Abeokuta, and M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from University of Ibadan. He also holds a B.Agric. in Agricultural Economics, also from University of Ibadan.
An astute trade unionist, Dr. Adeniyi has served as Public Relations Officer and later Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, as well as Zonal Treasurer of ASUP, South-West Zone. He also made history as Pioneer Chairman of Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all trade unions in Oyo State’s tertiary institutions, where he provided exemplary leadership and fostered unity among staff unions.
Dr. Adeniyi is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) and the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE). He is happily married and blessed with loving children.
His appointment as OYSIEC Chairman reflects decades of excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to education, labour advocacy, and good governance in Oyo State and beyond.
