Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is poised to make history by becoming the first governor to install three Olubadans of Ibadanland during his tenure as the Executive Governor of the state, Egalitarian Voice reports.
This milestone follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Monday, July 7, paving the way for the anticipated ascension of High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as the next Olubadan.
Governor Makinde had previously installed two monarchs — the late Oba Lekan Balogun in 2022 and Oba Olakulehin in 2024. With the imminent installation of Ladoja, he will set a historic precedent in the annals of Oyo State’s traditional leadership.
Governor Makinde has already installed two Olubadans since he assumed office in 2019.
Rashidi Ladoja, a respected politician and businessman, served as the Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2006. His chieftaincy journey culminated in August 2024 when he was officially crowned the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, resolving years of dispute surrounding his place in the traditional hierarchy.

The Olubadan stool follows a distinctive and highly structured succession system. The title alternates between two lines: the civil (Otun/Olubadan) and the military (Balogun) lines. Progression through the ranks is based strictly on seniority, and only the highest-ranking chief in either line becomes eligible to ascend the throne.
With the expected coronation of Ladoja, the historical and cultural significance of the Olubadan succession process continues to reflect the stability and heritage of Ibadanland — now with Governor Makinde playing an unprecedented role in shaping that legacy.
