As part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s forward-thinking agenda for modern infrastructure and sustainable development, the Oyo State Government has launched the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA) — a bold initiative aimed at reshaping the state’s urban future through strategic planning, affordable housing, and smart infrastructure.
The newly established Authority, led by Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, is quickly emerging as a cornerstone of Governor Makinde’s long-term urban blueprint, focused on building livable, economically vibrant, and environmentally sustainable communities across the state.
According to documents reviewed by Egalitarian Voice Media, the OYNTCDA is guided by key focus areas that align with Oyo State’s broader developmental vision, including strategic urban planning and development, efficient land acquisition and management, affordable housing and real estate expansion, sustainable infrastructure, and public-private partnerships to promote inclusive growth.
With urban populations expanding in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Iseyin, and beyond, stakeholders say this initiative is not only timely but critical to preventing urban sprawl and infrastructural strain.
“This is about more than roads and buildings. It’s about creating structured communities where housing, environment, and opportunity go hand in hand,” said Mrs. Adebiyi in an interview with Egalitarian Voice.
The impact of OYNTCDA is expected to extend well beyond 2027, serving as a lasting legacy of the Makinde administration. Urban policy experts predict that the Authority’s activities will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate real estate and infrastructure investment, and significantly boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through structured growth.
Moreover, the Authority is working closely with ministries, agencies, and private developers to deliver eco-friendly housing schemes, integrated transport systems, and planned city layouts that meet global standards.
