….Says He Won’t Return to House of Assembly

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has revealed that he is considering life beyond the Assembly and may pursue a governorship bid—depending on the direction of his political party.
Obasa made this known on Thursday during an interview on Television Continental (TVC), where he addressed questions about his earlier comments on his political future.
The lawmaker, who has served as a councillor and later as Speaker, explained that the natural progression for him would be either to the Senate or governorship. While confirming that the ambition still exists, he stressed that the final decision rests with the party hierarchy.
“Every politician has ambitions, but you get to a stage where you cannot determine what comes next. If you believe in the party structure, you understand that it’s about consultation, consensus, and the leadership’s direction,” Obasa said.

He emphasised that personal aspirations must align with the broader goals and strategy of the party.
Obasa, who recently survived a leadership crisis that briefly saw him unseated as Speaker, also confirmed that he would not seek a fifth term in the Assembly.

Asked if he would contest again in 2027 as a legislator, he replied, “Not really,” signalling that his focus may be shifting to higher responsibilities.
