Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, has openly signalled that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now his preferred political destination as he weighs a possible exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor dropped the strong hint on Tuesday while receiving a high-powered delegation of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House, Bauchi.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the closed-door meeting, Mohammed blamed his planned move on the protracted internal crisis rocking the PDP, saying all reconciliation efforts made so far had failed to yield results.

According to him, the party has reached a critical crossroads.
“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” the governor said.
He further revealed that several options had been explored by party stakeholders through committees raised at both national and state levels, including possible alignments with the ruling APC, but those moves did not materialise.

“We set up committees at both the national and state levels to explore all options, including even the All Progressives Congress, but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there,” he added.
The development has sparked intense political speculation, with insiders suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed may formally declare for the ADC on Thursday, a move that could significantly alter the political equation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

If confirmed, the defection would mark one of the most consequential political realignments in recent times, given Mohammed’s strategic influence as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and a key northern power broker.
