The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr Zacch Adedeji, has stated that the myths surrounding the new tax laws are gradually fading away.
He made this known on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on the TVC programme, ‘Journalists’ Hangout’.
According to the NRS boss, low-income earners should examine their January salaries to see the impact of the country’s new tax laws compared to the former legislation. Egalitarian Voice.
He added that lower-cadre earners would experience reduced taxes, which would be reflected in January 2026.

He further argued that the new tax laws sought to protect Nigerians rather than increase their burden.
He assured the public that under the new laws, critical items that would affect Nigerians’ disposable income—such as food and transportation—are exempt from transactional taxes.

“By the time the salary is paid at the end of January, earners in that lower cadre will confirm [the reduction] compared to what they paid under the old law,” he said.
Adedeji urged Nigerians to ignore the rumours being peddled about the new tax regime.
“You can see now that we are on the 13th of January, all those myths… You can see that those things were nowhere to be found,” he added.
