‘It Will Be Incorrect To Suggest PDP Has Factions’ – Wike

‘It Will Be Incorrect To Suggest PDP Has Factions’ – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains one united political platform, dismissing suggestions that the party has splintered into factions.

Egalitarian Voice reports that Wike made the assertion while speaking with journalists in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

The former Rivers State governor explained that disagreements among party members are normal in politics but stressed that such differences do not translate into the existence of multiple factions within the party.

Addressing concerns about divisions within the party, Wike stated that the PDP remains a single political entity despite internal disagreements among some members.

He said ongoing discussions aimed at reconciling aggrieved members are part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of its forthcoming national convention.

“As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP, and it would be incorrect to suggest otherwise,” Wike said.

According to him, dissatisfaction among some members is not unusual in political organisations.

He noted that efforts to resolve disputes and restore unity within the party are already underway.

The FCT minister further explained that reconciliation efforts within the party would continue even after the scheduled PDP National Convention, which is billed to hold on March 29 and 30.

He clarified that the convention would not hinder ongoing discussions aimed at resolving disagreements among party stakeholders.

According to Wike, dialogue remains a key strategy in addressing concerns raised by aggrieved members.

Speaking further, the minister pointed out that the party has a tight timetable leading to the conduct of its primary elections.

Wike disclosed that the PDP primaries are expected to take place between April 23 and May 13, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He emphasised that the schedule leaves little room for delays in the party’s internal processes.

“This timeline leaves little room for delays,” he added.
