Is Nigeria Truly Safer Now? Reno Omokri’s Statement Sparks Heated Reactions

Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has stirred debate after asserting that Nigeria is significantly safer today than it was a decade ago.
Speaking on Channels Television on March 4, Omokri argued that when compared to the level of insecurity recorded in 2016, the country’s security situation has improved considerably.
“In 2016, we were the third most terrorized nation in the world. Now, we are not even in the top five,” he said. Omokri cited several large public gatherings that held without major security incidents, including the December tourist influx in Lagos which reportedly attracted about 1.2 million visitors.
He also referenced the Argungu Fishing Festival in Kebbi State, which drew about 50,000 fishermen and about 500,000 spectators in February, as well as the Ojude Oba Festival in Ogun State that hosted over 200,000 participants last June.
Omokri maintained that although Nigeria still faces localized security challenges in some regions, the overall situation across the country reflects noticeable improvement compared to previous years.

However, his remarks have generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some agreeing that security has improved in certain areas, while others insist that many communities across the country are still grappling with serious security concerns.
