On the 19th of October 2024, the Ibadan Food Bank Initiative marked the World Food Day with a outreach program in Oje community, Ibadan. The event, which saw a remarkable turnout of volunteers, aimed to alleviate food insecurity in the community by distributing the “Box of Love” to vulnerable households. Each box contained essential food items such as rice, beans, Spaghetti, and other staple items.
This impactful project was made possible through a generous donation from the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, demonstrating a strong partnership aimed at addressing hunger and improving nutrition for those in need.

Speaking on the initiative, Popoola Samuel the Team Lead of Ibadan Food Bank Initiative highlighted the importance of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2—Zero Hunger. “Our goal is to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry. Hunger remains a pressing challenge in our country, and we are dedicated to playing our part in eradicating food insecurity. This outreach is just a step toward ensuring that everyone, regardless of their socio-economic status, has access to adequate nutrition. Together, we can make significant strides toward achieving SDG 2 and creating a hunger-free world.”

Folorunsho Okunola, a beneficiary of the outreach, said “The current situation in the country is very difficult, with prices of food going up every day. This Box of Love will help my family a great deal, it takes off some of the burden of worrying about how to feed my children. I am grateful to the Ibadan Food Bank Initiative for their kindness.”
