At least 20 aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed interest in contesting the upcoming bye-election for the Ibadan North federal constituency seat, which became vacant following the death of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.
Akinremi, who was serving his second term in office under the APC, passed away at the age of 51 on July 10, 2024, and was buried the following day according to Islamic rites.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan on Thursday, the APC Chairman in Oyo State, Alhaji Olayide Abas, confirmed the high number of aspirants and urged party leaders and stakeholders to cooperate in selecting the best candidate for the election.
Among the aspirants are prominent party members such as Olusegun Olaleye, Wale Olatunji, Adekunle Oladeji, Umar Arisekola Alao, AbdulRasaq AbdulGaniyy, Khalil Mustapha, Kamil Omotosho, Taofeek Aderogba, Idris Babatunde Lapade, and Musibau Ayinla.
Abas assured that the party would conduct a fair and transparent selection process, emphasizing the importance of choosing a strong representative to reclaim the seat for the APC.
“Ibadan North Federal Constituency cannot afford to have a representative whose voice would not be heard due to party inferiority,” Abas stated.
He also called for unity among aspirants, party leaders, and stakeholders, highlighting the collective commitment to ensuring a credible candidate emerges to represent the constituency in the Green Chamber.
