The Senior Special Assistant to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, has urged Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to stop using Wike as a scapegoat for his alleged lack of performance.
In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, Olayinka emphasized that Wike is neither the first nor the last opposition member to serve as a minister in a ruling party’s government. He accused Governor Mohammed of being fixated on Wike and using this as an excuse to mask his inability to effectively lead the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Olayinka further criticized Mohammed for abandoning his party and Senate position to accept a ministerial role under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He listed several opposition politicians who have worked with ruling governments in the past, including:
- Late Chief Bola Ige, an Alliance for Democracy (AD) member, who served as a Minister under President Obasanjo’s PDP government.
- Dr. Olu Agunloye, an AD member, who served as a Minister under Obasanjo’s PDP government.
- Mrs. Modupe Adesanya, an AD member and daughter of the late Afenifere leader, who served as a Special Adviser under Obasanjo’s PDP government.
- Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, an ANPP member, who served as a Minister under President Yar’Adua’s PDP government.
- Bala Mohammed, who resigned from the Senate as an ANPP member to accept a ministerial role under Jonathan’s PDP government.
- Barrister Nyesom Wike, a PDP member currently serving as a Minister under President Tinubu’s APC government.
- Bianca Ojukwu, an APGA member, currently serving as a Minister under Tinubu’s APC government.

In a statement titled “Bala Mohammed and His Obsession with Wike,” Olayinka stated:
“Governor Bala Mohammed, who left his ANPP senatorial mandate to become a Minister under the PDP, now criticizes Wike for accepting a similar role. This hypocrisy highlights his opportunistic politics. If offered any position under the APC in 2015, he likely would have defected, as he did before.”
Olayinka also accused Mohammed of attempting to use Wike as a tool to stay politically relevant and bolster his rumored 2027 presidential ambition. He concluded:
