FULL LIST: INEC Confirms Receipt of 110 Applications for Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has received letters of intent from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a briefing in Abuja on Monday, 23rd June 2025. He revealed that the Commission is diligently processing the requests in accordance with the Electoral Act and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022.

“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Prof. Yakubu said. “We are processing these requests strictly in line with the procedures outlined in the law and our established guidelines.”

According to the INEC Chairman, acknowledgements have been sent to all the applicants except for six associations whose letters were received recently. He assured that acknowledgements for those six will be dispatched before the end of the week.

To ensure transparency, Prof. Yakubu disclosed that the full list of the 110 associations—along with their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries—is being released to the public. The list will be uploaded on the Commission’s website and official social media platforms.

Hard copies of the list have also been distributed to stakeholders present at the meeting.

In a note of guidance to prospective applicants, the INEC Chairman reminded Nigerians that the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which outline the criteria and steps for registration, is publicly accessible on the Commission’s website.

This surge in applications for political party registration signals heightened political activity and growing interest in Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly ahead of future general elections.

INEC’s move to publish the list publicly is aimed at fostering transparency and ensuring that Nigerians are informed of ongoing developments in the political space.
