From 2026, TIN for All or Not? FIRS Chairman Reveals Major Shift Awaiting Bank Customers
The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has disclosed that there will no longer be a need for bank customers to obtain a separate Tax Identification Number (TIN) before carrying out financial transactions.
Adedeji explained that the National Identification Number (NIN) will automatically serve the purpose of generating a TIN once it is linked with a bank account.
Tinubu Govt Says Nigerians Earning Below N250,000 Monthly Exempted From Income Tax
“You don’t need to go through the stress of getting a separate TIN again. Once your NIN is linked to your bank account, your Tax Identification Number (TIN) is automatically generated,” he revealed.
This development means Nigerians will soon operate with just one identification number, a move expected to simplify tax administration and reduce the burden of multiple registrations.
Meanwhile, Egalitarian Voice wishes to inform the public that all circulating news claiming that all bank customers must urgently get a TIN are fake and misleading. The FIRS Chairman has made it clear that NIN-linked accounts will automatically generate TINs without any extra steps.
