FLASH: Why I slumped During Screening — Minister Nominee, Lawal Balarabe
During Wednesday’s ministerial nominee screening, Balarabe Lawal explained that his sudden collapse at the Senate was due to exhaustion, and he reassured that he is currently in good health.
Lawal, originally from Kaduna State, underwent screening alongside fellow nominees Jamila Ibrahim (Kwara) and Ayodele Olawande (Ondo). This was in addition to the 45 ministers who had received approval from the Red Chamber in August.
The screening process followed a letter from President Bola Tinubu to the Senate, which was read on the floor of the legislative chamber on Tuesday, seeking confirmation for the nominees.
However, during the screening, a dramatic turn of events unfolded when Lawal, who was the second nominee called after Ibrahim, collapsed right after concluding his introduction. This prompted several individuals present to rush to his assistance.
After approximately an hour and a closed session of the Senate, the nominee left the chamber wearing a subtle smile. He assured everyone that he was doing well.
“I’m alright now. I’ve been treated and I’m alright now. It was basically exhaustion,” he told journalists.
Despite the incident preventing the Kaduna native from fielding questions, his nomination, along with that of his fellow nominees, was successfully confirmed.
