FLASH: I Never Stepped Down for Seyi Makinde in 2019 – Hon. Bolanle Amina Sarumi (BASA)
In a candid interview with Egalitarian Voice, Hon. Bolanle Amina Sarumi (BASA), former Governorship Candidate of the National Interest Party (NIP) and one-time Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde, debunked persistent rumours that she stepped down for the Governor during the 2019 elections.
“Let the records be clear—I did not step down for anyone in 2019. I contested the governorship race under NIP till the very end. My mission then, as now, was to serve the people and bring new energy into Oyo politics,” she declared.
BASA, known for her vibrant grassroots connection and progressive ideals, added that while she later worked with the Makinde-led administration in a key advisory role, her 2019 campaign was independent and issue-driven.
In a twist that is now fueling political whispers across Oyo State, BASA hinted at a return to the big stage in 2027.

Let’s just say, I’m not done yet. Oyo deserves inclusive, people-centered leadership—and the future holds promise,” she said with a knowing smile.
Though she stopped short of making a formal declaration, her words have been interpreted by political watchers as a clear signal: BASA may be preparing to throw her hat into the ring for the 2027 governorship race.
