The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports circulating in some newspapers and online platforms claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a press statement issued in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), described the publication as false, baseless, and misleading, clarifying that the information did not originate from the Ministry.
“At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Dr. Alausa stated.
He reaffirmed that JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The Minister emphasized that the established admission process through JAMB remains fully operational and that any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety.

Dr. Alausa further reiterated the Ministry’s continued collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to maintain transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system. He noted that the Ministry remains committed to ensuring merit-based admissions guided by due process.
The Education Ministry also cautioned media houses, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and spreading misinformation capable of causing confusion within the education sector.
Members of the public, particularly students, parents, and tertiary institutions, were urged to rely solely on official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and verified information regarding admission processes and education-related matters.
