FLASH: Another State Governor Increases Minimum Wage To N90,000

The governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has approved the increase of minimum wage for workers across the state.

The minimum wage for civil servants in the state was increased from N70,000 to N90,000.

This was disclosed by Ikeuwa Omebe, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation after the State’s Executive Council meeting on Thursday.

Omebe while speaking to journalists, said the governor’s decision to increase the minimum wage stems from his desire to improve the welfare of workers across the state.

Noting that implementation of the new wage is with immediate effect, Omebe said the newly approved N90,000 covers all categories of workers in Ebonyi.

“We want to state categorically that this is not a political statement, as this government does not toy with workers’ welfare.

In addition, he said the state government has also offset the pension and gratuities of state retirees from its creation in 1996 to date.

According to Omebe, the verification process for retirees in the Local Government Areas had commenced, and when completed, the payment will be made.

Also stating that this action is not a political move, Omebe assured the people of the state of the governor’s committment to their welfare.

“The government is anchored on the biblical people’s charter of needs mantra which is leading the people according to their needs.
