The Federal Government has announced a ban on cash payments across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), directing them to fully adopt electronic revenue collection systems.
Under the new directive, MDAs have been given a 45-day deadline to install and deploy Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and other approved digital payment platforms to facilitate collections.
The policy, according to the government, is aimed at strengthening transparency, blocking revenue leakages and improving accountability in public finance management. Officials said the move aligns with ongoing public sector reforms designed to modernise government operations and enhance ease of doing business.
The government warned that any MDA that fails to comply with the directive within the stipulated timeframe would face appropriate sanctions, stressing that cash handling by government agencies would no longer be tolerated.
Members of the public were advised to make payments to MDAs only through approved electronic channels once the policy takes full effect, as part of efforts to ensure seamless implementation nationwide.
