Today, the House of Representatives took action against a member for inappropriate attire. The member, who was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, entered the session towards the end of the day and sat in the section designated as an alternative chamber for the members.
During the proceedings, Billy Osaweru (APC, Edo) raised a point of order, drawing attention to the member’s mode of dressing, which he claimed violated the House’s dress code.
According to the House rules, members are required to wear a suit and tie or complete traditional attire during plenary sessions.
Osaweru stated, “Mr. Speaker, our rules emphasize the importance of proper dressing when attending plenary. If you look upstairs, there is a member in the chamber wearing a T-shirt and jeans.”
While Osaweru was addressing the point of order, the member in question stood up and left the chamber. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas acknowledged the compliance with the point of order by stating, “Point of order complied with.”
