By-Election Shake-Up: APC Wins 12 Seats, PDP and APGA Share Spoils, ADC Records No Victory (Full Results Inside)

Nigerians across 16 constituencies in 13 states went to the polls on Saturday to elect new representatives in by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elections were held to fill vacant legislative seats occasioned by the resignation or death of serving members of both the National and State Assemblies.

The by-elections covered two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo states, five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo states, as well as nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, and Zamfara.

Preliminary results compiled from across major dailies showed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a sweeping victory, clinching 12 out of the 16 seats contested.

Bagwai/Shanono Constituency (State Assembly): Ali Kiyawa (NNPP)

Anambra State:

Anambra South Senatorial District: Emmanuel Nwachukwu (APGA) – 90,408 votes

Oyo State:

Notes:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won 12 out of the 16 by-elections conducted across 13 states.

The by-elections in Zamfara (Kaura Namoda South Constituency) were declared inconclusive.

Specific winner names for some constituencies (e.g., Kaduna and Kano’s Ghari Tsanyawa) were not detailed in the sources but were attributed to the APC.

Allegations of voter intimidation, vote buying, and electoral malpractice were reported in some states, notably Ogun and Kano, but INEC declared winners based on collated results.

However, the by-elections in Zamfara State were declared inconclusive, with INEC expected to announce a new date for a rerun.

ADC Scorecard Empty

The ADC was adopted by members of opposition parties vowing to unseat the APC in the 2027 elections. The party tested its popularity in the by-elections, which were keenly contested by 637 candidates from 17 parties jostling for 68 seats.

Oyo ADC Releases Strong Statement on Ibadan North Election Outcome

The by-election marked the first election the party contested in since the coalition of opposition leaders adopted the ADC as a platform to contest the 2027 polls.

Prior to the elections, the interim National Chairman of the party, David Mark, had appealed to Nigerians to support the party’s candidates and give them the chance to prove themselves in the by-elections.
