BREAKING: Tinubu’s Aide Resigns, Rejects ‘One-Party Nigeria’ and Blasts Wike Alliance
……Aliyu Audu Quits as Senior Special Assistant, Warns Against Silence in Political Space
A Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, has resigned from his position, citing concerns over Nigeria’s drift toward a one-party system and what he described as an “unholy alliance” between the president and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Audu, a known political communicator and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), tendered his resignation via a letter to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The resignation, according to him, is with immediate effect.
In his letter and a subsequent public statement, Audu made it clear that while he remains committed to Nigeria’s democratic development, he refuses to play a role in what he fears may become a dangerous consolidation of political power.
“Though I do not align with the PDP, I refuse to be used directly or indirectly as an instrument to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state. That would be a betrayal of both divine favour and democratic principle,” he declared.

The former presidential aide criticized the ongoing wave of defections—particularly by governors and lawyers—from opposition parties to the APC, calling it a distortion of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
He also expressed concern about growing silence in the political space, warning that unchecked compliance and silence among leaders could erode accountability and justice.
“As leaders, we owe it to God to preserve the values and the justice system that form the foundation of our democracy,” he wrote.
Audu didn’t hold back in addressing what he called a “misguided partnership” between President Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike, who was formerly a chieftain of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“I pride myself as a progressive and a promoter of democratic values, which seems to be lost in the unholy alliance of PBAT with Wike,” he added, referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by his initials.
Ending his statement on a sharp note, Audu reminded political loyalists and critics alike that while his resignation is not an act of rebellion, it is a stand for principle
“That does not mean our gbas gbos will seize o. We are still here for the attacks and counter-attacks. Oya, Agbadorians over to you.”
With Audu’s departure, the presidency loses one of its more vocal and media-savvy aides. The resignation is already stirring conversations in political circles, especially as concerns grow over the balance of power and the health of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
