PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS FORMER PRESIDENT BUHARI, ORDERS VP SHETTIMA TO ACCOMPANY HIS BODY HOME FROM THE UK
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced the passing of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the presidency, Buhari died in London today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m., after a prolonged illness.
President Tinubu spoke with Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the late President’s widow, to express his condolences and deep sympathy over the loss.
In a mark of honour, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the remains of the former President back to Nigeria.
President Tinubu has also directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023. Prior to that, he led the country as a military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.
The President has also ordered all flags across the country to be flown at half-staff in honour of the late statesman.
