President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has been re-elected as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of States and Government held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria.
Recall that Egalitarian voice had earlier reported that the tenure of President Tinubu as ECOWAS chairman will end on Tuesday July 9th, 2024.
In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu appointed the President of Senegal to join the mediation team tasked with resolving issues in Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad.
Furthermore, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of member states fulfilling their financial commitments to ECOWAS in order to effectively address the security challenges facing the region.

As his one-year tenure as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority comes to an end on July 9, President Tinubu urged member states to honor their financial obligations, enabling ECOWAS to meet the expectations and recommendations of its Ministers of Defense and Finance.
