THE Presidency has replied to the Peoples Democratic Party’s call on President Bola Tinubu to convene a special National Security Council meeting to proffer a holistic solution and measures to curb the disturbing insecurity in the country.
The Presidency in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that insecurity and terrorism birthed during the 16 years of PDP-led government have improved in less than a year of President Tinubu’s administration, claiming that there have been a few terrorist and bandit attacks in the country.
Egalitarian Voice had reported that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP called on President Tinubu to convene a special National Security Council meeting to proffer a holistic solution and measures to curb the disturbing insecurity in the country.
The call was contained in a Communique issued on Thursday at the end of the 98th Meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party held in Abuja which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The party decried the anti-people policies of President Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, which had led to “worsening insecurity, harrowing economic hardship, soaring unemployment rate, high cost of food and other necessities of life with pervading misery and despondency across the country”.
The party accused the administration of Tinubu of desperately trying to emasculate the opposition and foist a one-party state on the country in less than one year he took over the administration of the country.
But replying to the PDP, Onanuga in the statement said that the opposition party is accusing President Tinubu and the ruling APC of all its (PDP) “notorious inadequacies” when it reigned for 16 years until power was taken out of the party in 2015.
Onanuga said, “We believe the party’s NEC members must have been habiting another planet, as all the accusations contradicted the reality on ground and completely ignored the stellar achievements recorded by the Tinubu Administration in less than one year.
“Unlike the PDP administration of 16 years, the Tinubu administration has been confronting the problems of our country headlong, moving for an audacious reset that will firmly put our country on a solid economic pedestal.
“It was surprising that the PDP under whose watch Boko Haram was born in 2009 and worse of all, which looted the billions of dollars earmarked to equip our armed forces and the police, could so unabashedly blame the Tinubu administration for what it wrongly termed increasing spate of terrorism and banditry.
“This is far from the truth. Security has improved, with fewer cases of terrorist attacks and banditry recorded. In recent weeks, over a thousand kidnapped victims, some whose kidnapping antedated this government, were rescued by our gallant armed forces, without the government paying any ransom.
