The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has downplayed the significance of the growing political coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. In an interview with Channels Television, Wike warned that Tinubu is not like former President Goodluck Jonathan, who lost power in 2015, emphasizing that the current president is a different kind of political figure.
Wike dismissed the coalition — which includes notable figures such as former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, Bolaji Abdullahi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Peter Obi — calling them “political vampires” who had already been rejected by the people.
He criticized these politicians for now expressing concern about the plight of Nigerians, stating that they failed to address citizens’ welfare when they were in power.
When asked if the 2027 elections could mirror the 2015 political shift that ousted Jonathan, Wike firmly responded:
“No, there’s no tsunami. They’re vampires, and we’ve chased them away. Be careful; Tinubu is not like Jonathan. The odds were against him in 2023, yet he prevailed. People say Nigerians are angry — but many of these same politicians failed them when they had the chance.”

He further took a jab at former leaders, saying
“You were Senate President for eight years — what did you do for Nigerians? As minister, you plunged the country into debt and still didn’t speak up for the people.”
Wike’s remarks underline the confidence within Tinubu’s camp amid emerging opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
