Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi, popularly known as BASA, has issued a call for the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to address the party’s challenges with honesty and decisiveness. She stressed the importance of forthrightness from the party’s leadership, particularly in light of current issues that threaten the party’s stability and unity.
BASA specifically emphasized the need for effective leadership from the acting chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to steer the party through this trying period. According to BASA, strong and decisive leadership is crucial during this time of internal strife.

Recent allegations have surfaced implicating Ambassador Damagum in court cases intended to allow Rivers State lawmakers to retain their seats despite having defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). These accusations, if proven true, could severely damage the party’s credibility and integrity.
Honourable Sarumi highlighted the urgent need for a swift and transparent resolution to these issues to prevent a loss of confidence among party members and supporters. She warned that failing to address these concerns might trigger a mass exodus from the party, further weakening its position.
“It is sad to see our leadership embroiled in such controversies,” BASA stated. “The PDP must stand firm on its principles and ensure that our actions reflect the values we profess. The current impasse must be resolved quickly to restore faith in our leadership and maintain the party’s cohesion.”
