Banks, Schools, Govt Parastatal, Others Will Be Closed for 48 Hours (DETAILS)
The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the country. As a result, banks, schools, government parastatals, and other public institutions will be closed for 48 hours in observance of the Islamic festival.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, who conveyed the government’s goodwill message to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. He emphasized the spiritual significance of Eid-el-Kabir, which symbolizes sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.

“As we mark this significant festival, Nigerians are encouraged to reflect on its core values—especially unity, love for one another, and selflessness,” the statement read.
The Minister further urged all Nigerians, irrespective of religious background, to continue to promote peace, national unity, and mutual respect. He also reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and security throughout the holiday period. Law enforcement agencies, he noted, have been placed on high alert to ensure a peaceful celebration nationwide.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most revered Islamic holidays. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command—before God provided a ram as a substitute.
